The Willamette University Women’s and Men’s basketball teams are sponsoring a fundraising event on Tuesday, January 31 in cooperation with Kim’s Hope to increase awareness of glioblastoma, the deadliest form of brain cancer, and raise funds for patients and families affected by it.
The teams will be playing Linfield University, with the women’s game tipping off at 6:00pm and the men’s game to follow at approximately 8:00pm. There will be prizes, raffles, competitions, and an opportunity to take photos with Blitz the Bearcat mascot.
All proceeds on the night will go to Kim’s Hope, an organization founded in memory of Kim Veenhuis, the mother of former Willamette Basketball player Amanda Carpenter. Kim battled her own diagnosis of glioblastoma from December of 2019 through August 2021, and in honor of her, Kim’s Hope is dedicated to providing financial aid to glioblastoma patients and their families to ensure they have the ability to access the medications, care, and treatment they need. Kim’s Hope is also proud to offer an annual scholarship for a student pursuing higher education that has been affected by glioblastoma in their family. For more information on Kim’s journey with glioblastoma and the various programs available through Kim’s Hope to help patients in need, please visit https://kimshope.org/about/.
